The new CIS building redefines its relationship to the city and adjacent campus through a reorganization of program around building volumes and central public courtyards. The building consists of two interlocking rings of program that fold into a continuous band of classrooms and multi purpose areas.
The major elements of the program, which include classrooms, breakout study space, educational research and community services, are distributed throughout the building. The two rings, whose spaces are integrated around the courtyards, contain a variety of flexible classroom spaces. Shared amenity space is located along the interior framework, allowing for overlap between user groups.
