A design proposal for a mixed use housing project along a 600’ linear site. The approach was to produce an internal relationship between building and site by creating a grid fabric based on a cascading housing block. The resultant patterning provided the framework for the organizational boundaries of the project. The proposal provides a continuous pedestrian pathway through the building and allows view corridors to run perpendicular through the site. The interior floor plates create interlocking housing units with spatially connecting mixed use program between the massing blocks. The building is stepped to create outdoor garden terraces and provide privacy between units while maintaining a visual connection to the surrounding site.
